Athletes and spectators attending the Winter Olympics in Sochi in February will face some of the "most invasive and systematic spying and surveillance in the history of the Games”, revealed The Guardian in early October.

According to documents gathered by Russian journalists, the Russian FSB security service “plans to ensure that no communication by competitors or spectators goes unmonitored during the event”.

Mass surveillance is not a discipline reserved to the NSA.
Human rights activists, media workers, athletes and spectators, all who will attend the Sochi games, will communicate openly, risking compromised data, contacts and, more dangerously, their sources if they are there to investigate.

In Russia, in the United States, or in France, Reporters Without Borders fights against mass surveillance and trains journalists and bloggers to protect themselves. For example, we implemented a series of online security workshops across the world.
